Look for validated performance.
As with other products you buy, homes also have certifications to help you make a wise choice.
Look for homes with these designations:
- Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rating
- ENERGY STAR® New Homes
- LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes
- National Green Building Standard (NGBS)
- Zero Energy Ready Home
There are many reputable, local programs around the country.
One example is Colorado-based Built Green Colorado, a non-profit organization that works with building and real estate professionals, local and state governments and homeowners to increase awareness and adoption of green building practices.
