"Building an energy efficient home was one of our best ideas yet. Not only do we feel good about our environmental impact, we don't wince anymore when we open our utility bills."

Thanks to our performance home, we can think more about improving our golf games than we do about lowering utility bills.

So says Lorna Phillips, a retired elementary school teacher. She and her husband David recently moved from the northeast to Tubac, Arizona, after their kids had grown up and left home.

"We knew that instead of paying a lot of money to heat our home in Maine, we were going to be running the air conditioner almost all the time," says Lorna. "We have decent pensions, but we didn't want to risk a big rise in energy prices now that we're on a fixed income. That's why we searched for a homebuilder who specializes in energy efficiency."

The Phillips decided on an ENERGY STAR® certified new home.

After a home energy assessment, the home boasts a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score of 50 — about 50 points better than an average new home built to Code.

"Thanks to our performance home, we can think more about improving our golf games than we do about lowering utility bills," says Lorna.
