Being able to control humidity and ensure fresh air for our family was our number-one priority.

Allergies run in the Horne family. So when Wade and Lily were looking for a new home, they put indoor air quality at the top of their list.

After a lot of research, Wade and Lily learned about the 'build tight and ventilate right' approach to home building and decided to buy a high-performance home.

"Being able to control humidity and ensure fresh air for our family was our number-one priority," says Lily.

The family worked with a builder to ensure their new home was airtight and had proper ventilation, to prevent dust and allergens from getting in.

Proper ventilation was also a key consideration to dilute indoor air, as were jump ducts and well-sized, high-efficiency furnace and air conditioning units.

"The difference is noticeable, especially in the spring," says Lily. "As an added bonus, our new home is much more energy efficient. We're glad we moved."
